Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced engineering leader to spearhead their engineering team as they build cloud-based machine learning tools. Their engineering team works across a wide range of technologies, from the front end to the back end, designing everything from database-driven web applications to web-based user collaboration tools to massively parallel data analysis systems.
Responsibilities:
- Build a highly effective team of engineers capable of delivering on all engineering priorities
- Setting and encouraging engineering practices and principles conducive to building great products
- Work with product management and executives to define technical strategy and roadmap.
- Facilitating communication across the organization, without using information as a means to gain leverage or play politics.
- Growing reports, representing their interests, and helping further their careers.
- Embodying and helping define clients culture
- Buckling down and writing code when needed.
Required Skills
- B.S. or B.A. in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, or other technical fields with a programming bent.
- 3+ years’ experience in developing web-based software in an industry or academic setting.
- 2+ years managing a team of software engineers or other programming disciplines.
- Delivery of multiple software products through the software development lifecycle.
- Relevant tools/skills: Python, Javascript, HTML, CSS, SQL, Django, Terraform, Ansible, Fabric, Postgres, AWS tools: EC2, S3, Glacier, DynamoDB, RDS, Lambda, SageMaker, Batch, Step Functions, CloudFormation, IAM, SNS.
Preferred Skills
- Experience leading in at least one of the following software development settings: Web development, Distributed data analysis, Cloud-based task orchestration, Bioinformatics, Data science, Machine learning
- Experience with genomics or biological computing.
